East London Green Enterprise District

London
2011–2011
Client: Design for London
Project status: Completed

A strategic report for GLA & DfL as part of the Green Enterprise District Framework.

Working alongside other architects and designers, business planners, graphic designers and cost advisers, we developed a proposal for the delivery of sustainable waste management in East London. This project developed our research in 'Rubbish In, Resources Out', and proposes facilities using alternative waste treatment technologies to process waste and create electricity.

We worked with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets waste team and with industry suppliers to develop a strategy that used existing vacant sites in protected wharves, supporting river use for transport, and connecting to existing transportation and supply networks. We also identified industries and businesses for co-location, to take advantage of the waste by-products, as well as suitable existing heat networks to benefit from the heat and power generated in sustainable waste treatment.
