Tom Holland's Study

London
2010–2011
Client: Private
Project status: Completed

The creation of a new study for the writer Tom Holland.

The brief for this project was to create a tower for Tom to work in, within the confimes of a Victorian terrace house. Our response was to take Tom's existing study and to extend it vertically into previously unused roof space, and by hipping the roof over his study we were able to introduce a south facing rooflight which further emphasises the height of the room. Tom's library and 'museum' were housed in 4m tall oak shelves that wrap around the room and are scalable to access the upper levels.

The project also provided a new bedroom and shower room at top floor level and installed solar thermal heating to reduce the carbon footprint of the house.
